Her signature weapon. Anyone captured in the lasso is forced to truthfully answer any questions she asks. The lasso cannot be broken, snapped, or cut (usually! it definitely has been all of the above at one time or another). It can also be used to erase memories, heal the mentally ill (in some cases), lift mind control, revert a metaphysical change, and implant commands that must then be obeyed. Diana can also use the lasso to enter someone's soul and confront them within the deepest parts of themselves (WW 2006 #15, Simone).

Bracelets of Submission
Diana's gauntlets were formed from the remnants of Zeus's legendary Aegis shield, re-forged for her use by Hephaestus. Diana's superhuman reflexes enable her to use the gauntlets to easily deflect projectiles (such as bullets) and powerful energy blasts from beings such as Ares and Darkseid. She is even fast enough to protect herself from multi-vector attacks. At close-range the gauntlets block blades, weapons, and punches. When crossed, the gauntlets generate a remnant of the Aegis itself, forming an impenetrable barrier just in front of them which allows Diana to protect herself and those behind her from area attacks. They are also capable of channeling Zeus' holy lightning when struck together.

Diana's golden tiara doubles as a throwing weapon. It is razor-edged and can cut through most substances, including Superman's skin (WW 1986 #219, Rucka).

As a well-known foundational DC character, Diana has gone through multiple character arcs through her long history, but a few things are always the same: she is always sympathetic, gracious, and firm without necessarily being stubborn. As a foil to Batman, she is loving and empathetic; as a foil to Superman she is practical and not so idealistic.

Diana is serious, but embraces joy. She knows that the world and this life are both full of as much beauty and wonder as pain and strife, and she endeavors to enjoy the former even as she wages war against the latter. She has a gentle sense of humor and an expansive, caring heart. Above all things, she cherishes honesty, steadfastness, courage, and empathy.

Diana lives by Amazonian codes, both in warfare and in life. These codes recognize the need for battle and emphasize that if all other methods have or will failed, then one must throw their whole selves into the fight. But they also recognize the benefit of an open hand and open mind and the need for empathy once the battle is won. This is how Diana has regularly managed to defeat rogues who then work with her (the Gorilla Knights, Giganta): she recognizes them for the complex, unique persons they are:

"We have a saying, my people: Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue if you can pacify, and don’t raise your hand at all until you’ve first extended it."

Hatred has no place in her reckoning. Her greatest foe is Cheetah, a woman who Diana has spent years fighting and trying to save at the same time, and who she still calls 'friend.' Her love for all things is so great that, in the near future, she'll become a Star Sapphire, wielding the very power of love itself.

The few times Diana compromises her beliefs and values, she does so only after deep consideration, which usually allows her to come back to center after a few issues of self-doubt. Unlike Bruce and Kal, both of whom hold iron-clad and inflexible rules, Diana knows that sometimes compromise is unavoidable.

Gail Simone once said: "If you need to stop an asteroid, you call Superman. If you need to solve a mystery, you call Batman. But if you need to end a war, you call Wonder Woman." Diana is the diplomat of the Trinity -- at one time professionally so, in her role as Ambassador. She understands the importance of being able to talk out a problem rather than simply always punching it in the face, and has the ability to sympathize even with her worst enemies. Which isn't to say she can't get angry; however, she always regrets losing her temper when it happens.

Despite her abilities and self-knowledge, Diana can feel quite awkward or uncertain at times, particularly when it comes to personal emotions. She generally finds it easier and more appealing to fight an alien invasion or go toe-to-toe with a mythological beast than deal with the vagaries of human relationships. She tends to pour that energy into work with the League or in helping her friends but will sometimes wallow with her version of a tub of ice cream (beating up Giganta).

Diana is a warrior as well as a diplomat, and if someone starts a fight she's certain to end it one way or another. But it's telling that she prefers her lasso over the sword and shield; though she isn't wholly against killing, she hates taking a life as it destroys any possibility of redemption. Ultimately, her goal is one of peace: she left behind her home and everything she knew to spread the message of love and peace through Man's World, and it remains her guiding principle even years after leaving the island and being separated from the other Amazons.

Although Diana is an extremely powerful individual, canon provides multiple examples of times where she was bested by a weaker opponent. There are multiple ways the other inhabitants of this world could defeat her, including but not limited to:

MAGIC
Diana is susceptible to magic and curses, especially those that use the power of the Greek pantheon against her. For example, in Gail Simone's run, Diana dealt with a magical loss of her soul. Fun fact: Diana is currently cut off both from Themyscira and her gods, so she's especially vulnerable.

LEVERAGE
Diana is (mostly) invulnerable; most of her friends and loved ones are not. A threat to one of them will often result in her backing down. Sometimes, she'll get so enmeshed in trying to save them that she'll wind up becoming a threat to herself by, for example, unlocking chaotic powers or offering to duel Medusa.

GOD-MADE WEAPONS
New Earth Diana is largely invulnerable to all but god-forged weapons, but 'god-made' is a blanket distinction. She could be injured by a paperclip modified by Loki as easily as she is by an axe from Hephaestus' forge.

WEAPONIZING OTHER SUPERS
That's what Maxwell Lord did, and it was pretty damn effective. (Yes, it resulted in Diana snapping his neck, but until that point it was working great.)

What were your character's most formative experiences?:

Leaving Themyscira
The experience that turned Diana of Themyscira into Wonder Woman. Diana left behind her family, her people, her Paradise Island to bring a message of peace to Man's World and to help those in need. It also left her relying heavily on Steve Trevor and (later) Etta Candy, to the point where Steve and Etta became her surrogate family. Her connection to them is both a strength and a weakness, and – as becomes clear throughout the arc of The Circle – it remains a complicated subject for all three of them.

Meeting Bruce and Kal
Steve, Etta, and Barbara Ann were her first friends; the gods were her patrons and advisers. But Diana didn't truly find her equals until she met Batman and Superman. Together, the three of them form the core of the Justice League, but their friendship is more than their collaboration as teammates. Although Diana and Kal are super-powered, they consider Bruce their equal match, and the three of them maintain a balance impossible with only two. They anchor her, and she does the same for them; they push and challenge her, and she does the same for them. Despite arguments and occasional battles, they all three of them come back to each other time and time again. She trusts them to give her advice and perspective she can't get anywhere else.

Killing Maxwell Lord (Infinite Crisis)
When Maxwell Lord turned Superman against the people of Earth, Diana pulled out every stop to fight a maddened Kal, trying to get him to realize Lord's deception. Eventually, she determined the only course of action was to stop Lord himself, permanently. To save Superman and the rest of the world, she snapped Lord's neck, killing him and driving a seemingly impassable rift between herself, Superman, and Batman, both of whom stopped speaking to her, viewing her as an untrustworthy murderer.

Not only did she lose her two best friends over her actions, but video of her killing Maxwell Lord went live and instantly viral, changing the world's perception of Wonder Woman completely. In the wake of public anger and distrust, Diana gave up her position as Ambassador to the UN, returned to Themyscira to protect the island against Brother Eye's OMACs, and eventually gave up the mantle of Wonder Woman to her sister, Donna Troy, while she joined the Department of Metahuman Affairs. It would be an entire year before she would be Wonder Woman once more.

What is your character afraid of? How does avoiding or preventing these fears influence their actions and decisions?

Never seeing her mother and sisters again; losing Kal and Bruce; losing Steve and Etta; losing Barbara Ann completely to the Cheetah. She has a number of deeply-rooted worries about Donna and Cassie, most of which boil down to them being sort of jealous of her and her potentially failing them in some way. Any one of these fears can be used as extremely influential leverage against her. Going back to the times she's compromised herself, it has almost always been in reaction to a threat against one of these people.

Here's a fear she won't even admit to herself: that she'll never find love, never have a family of her own. In her timeline, Steve Trevor married Etta Candy, and she's currently – somewhat reluctantly – wooing Tom Tresser, aka Nemesis, more because she wants to one day have a family than because she actually likes him. If she were to actually think about it, she'd probably realize that she knows her focus on her duty will always supersede every relationship she has, as happened with Steve, and she doesn't regret her priorities but she does regret never having companionship.

What goals does your character have right now? What do they want, and how do they go about getting it?

Diana's primary objective right now is to find a god willing to stand against Athena and her edict that no Amazon may return to Themyscira, so that she may save her mother Hippolyta from a bunch of Nazis. This is difficult, as no other pantheon wants to commit what would essentially be an act of war against Athena and the rest of the Greek pantheon.

Her other goal is to get the newly reformed Justice League back off the ground, and to fully fix her somewhat strained relationships with Superman and Batman, while keeping her actual identity off the radar of head of Metahuman Affairs, Sgt. Steele.

Also, she hates having a secret identity, and would prefer to drop it as soon as possible.

Gameplay —

Areas of Interest / Brainstorming:

Diana will almost certainly get involved with the Bat-family. She’s not terribly familiar with all the kids and Bruce doesn’t know her, but he’s a version of one of her best friends, so she’s going to bug him. She’d also want to talk to Eros, and potentially Loki – see the above desire to find a god who will send her to Themyscira – and drum up as many allies as possible. After the information she got in the TDM, she has a personal investment in how terrible the Alliance is, so it’s possible she’ll get mixed up with them somehow. Will she scold them for doing a bad job? Maybe!

Also, one of the Jasons told her they don’t have many heavy hitters, and she is more than willing to take on that role. Basically, she’s annoyed that there’s a Justice League-type group that isn’t actually doing any good, and she has a tendency to take the direct approach when she’s unhappy with something.

Appearance

LOVELY AS APHRODITE

Diana is tall and fair-skinned, with long, wavy, black hair and blue eyes (formerly gray, thanks to gaining Athena's sight). She has a muscular build and is generally considered to be stunningly beautiful.

She is most usually wearing her costume/armor, which consists of a red overbust corset-style top and blue star-spangled bikini briefs. More recent designs have replaced the bikini bottoms with a blue skirt of leather straps, more like the costume from her DCEU appearances.

The costume is accessorized with a golden, eagle-shaped breastplate and a golden girdle in the shape of a W. This design has been explained multiple ways, but the run I mostly draw her from had the girdle inspired by the w-shape of the constellation Cassiopeia.

There was a while where she wore pants, but that's better left to the mists of time.

Along with her costume, she wears red boots with a white stripe up the shins and a golden tiara. As Wonder Woman, she wears her hair long and loose.

Occasionally, Diana will wear gold full-body armor with an eagle-head open-faced helmet and large non-working golden wings. This is affectionately known in some circles as "the screaming chicken" armor.

When not in costume, Diana gravitates towards simple, comfortable clothing like blue jeans and white tank tops. As Agent Prince, she wears a white catsuit and pink-shaded glasses, and wears her hair up in a tight bun.

This may pose an almost irresistible challenge to characters who pride themselves on their ability to lie. TBH, that sounds like fun to thread out: go ahead and try it!

If she can't be harmed by conventional weapons, why bother deflecting bullets with her bracers? I hear you ask. To that I say: rule of cool. Also, Superman kind of has the whole 'letting bullets bounce off him' thing locked up.

She occasionally rides around on a winged horse. Like you do. And yes, this is the Pegasus, the winged horse of myth, born from Medusa's blood after Diana chopped her head off (again).

Invisible Jet

It's a jet you can see through.
The origins of the jet vary from reboot to reboot: it was originally a normal (if invisible) plane, but later was retconned as a Lansinarian Morphing Disk, a semi-sentient piece of alien tech which could take any form Diana required. "Dome," as it was called, sacrificed itself to save thousands of humans from a tsunami. Now, as a lifeless husk of itself, it's stuck forever in the form of the invisible jet.
So, yes. Diana occasionally pilots the corpse of an alien being around. Comics!

Kane Milohai's Sea Shell

Granted when she pledged loyalty to Kane Milohai in order to save her mother Hippolyta. The shell floats in air and water, changes in size to accommodate the number of passengers, and can travel between dimensions/mystically inaccessible places.

Born of clay and her mother's hope, Diana was the only child of the Amazons. Blessed with god-given strength and powers, she became the champion of the Amazons and won the right to bear their symbol, their shield, their sword, and the Golden Lasso, which compels those in its coils to speak truth.

When Steve Trevor crashed onto the shores of Themyscira, Diana returned with him to the world of men, where she fought by his side in the hopes of ending the Great War. (Or some variation on that theme; comics!) Now living in Man's World as a part of the Justice League, she continues to fight for those who cannot and to live by the values she holds most dear.

Since then, Diana has been a card-carrying member of the Justice League, a fast-food worker (ask her about Taco Whiz!), a UN ambassador, a published author, a secret agent, and a globally distrusted murderer. (Max Lord deserved it.)

Diana is serious, but embraces joy. She knows that the world and this life are both full of as much beauty and wonder as pain and strife, and she endeavors to enjoy the former even as she wages war against the latter.

She has a gentle sense of humor, and an expansive, caring heart. Above all things, she cherishes honesty, steadfastness, courage, and empathy.

Diana is mostly pre52, with a smattering of DCEU. I generally pull her from The Circle by Gail Simone, or from Greg Rucka's post-crisis run, beginning with The Hiketeia.

I'm flexible with canon points! Want pre-crisis? New Earth? Want to pick things up right after (or even during) Blackest Night? I can even dabble in Rebirth, although I reserve the right to fully ignore Jason. I can even go with fully DCEU... as long as it's from the Wonder Woman movie. (I haven't watched any of the rest.)

Physical Affection / Diana is very physically affectionate. She finds nothing strange about holding hands or hugging someone. However, kissing or anything past it is generally reserved for romantic partners.

Violence / Yeah, come at her, bro. She is physically impervious to all but god-made weapons, and even she has to admit her fondness for warfare. She generally doesn't start fights, but she's more than happy to end them.

Still, even with her propensity for combat, Diana will usually attempt to de-escalate the situation by diplomacy. If that fails, she'll usually use her lasso over any more lethal measures. Killing is a last resort.

Psychics / Diana lives and speaks openly and generally doesn't have a problem with people overhearing her thoughts. However, if you're digging into her mind without consent and as an act of aggression, please see the section on violence.
